Comforts for the soldiers

A certificate for the children's help
Another entry from the Derwenlas School  Log Books at the time of the Great War of 1914-1918 is shown here.
The children would have been making up knitted or sewn 'comforts' under the guidance of the sewing class teacher, and would have been very proud to have the framed certificate (the framing arranged by the lady from the local 'big house') from the Red Cross when they reached their target of 50 to send to the soldiers.
