Talking about the weather
Such are the variable delights of the British climate that it
is usual to find many references to the weather, and to its effect
upon attendances, in School Log Books.
The first entry seen below is a relatively rare specimen!

A complaint about the heat, recorded on 22nd July 1886: "Work in school very difficult owing to the great heat.
Thermometer at 85 degrees". An example of the more frequent type of comment, dated 9th
February 1917, is shown below.

On 22nd July 1886 the entry read: "Very cold during the week, with hard frost, thermometer
below freezing point every morning on assembly. Many children
suffering from chilblains".
