A more serious occasion than the arrival of the circus to Llanidloes was recorded in the School Log Books of the National School in 1914.

School log book entry 
  The above entry was dated 13th July 1914, and reads:
"Forty-six only were present out of ninety-two on books. The reason for this was the arrival of over 2000 of HM troops who have come to camp in the neighbourhood. Trains arrived at different intervals during the day. The Registers were marked, the attendance cancelled and school closed for the afternoon."

Arrival of 18th Infantry Brigade 
 

The photograph shows the band of the 18th Infantry Brigade playing near Llanidloes railway station, and local children can be seen enjoying the spectacle.
