The soldiers come to
town
The photograph shown below was taken in 1914 in Great Oak Street,
Llanidloes. It shows the 18th West Yorkshire Infantry Brigade
marching from the railway station after their arrival in the
district for military training. A large camp was set up in fields
near the town.

A small part of the tented military encampment
is shown in the picture below. The arrival of the 18th Infantry
Brigade was clearly a memorable event for the people of Llanidloes,
and these commemorative postcards were issued to mark the occasion.
