Death of a bright girl

  Two deaths at Darowen
The brief entries in School Log Books record times of great sadness as well as the everyday events of early school life. In times of rural poverty and fairly basic sanitary conditions, the health of the children was often under threat from diseases and infections.

  The above comment was noted on 22nd August,1892 and reads:
"Jane Williams, Fronfraidd, a bright girl 12 years of age from the First Class died this morning after a short illness. She was in School the week before the holidays".

Another sad death for the school, this time in 1934. The above entry was recorded on 29th November,1934 and reads:
"We regret to record the death of Evan Richard Owen. (Last Tuesday) Week yesterday he was in school but died under the operation for appendicitis, last night."
