Caehopkin School 3
Empire Day

A wartime celebration
From the very start the new Head Teacher was keen to involve the school in all the celebrations and festivals which were traditional in the community at that time.
The first entry shown here records the Empire Day celebrations on May 21st 1915. Empire Day had been celebrated for a number of years but in 1915 Britain was at war with powerful opponents on a scale never seen before, so that the celebrations would have taken on a new fervour with many local men away in the trenches.
