Hay British Infants School
The generous Hay townspeople, 1947

  A Royal wedding
Another national celebration which was duly marked in the records of the Hay Infants School was the wedding of Princess Elizabeth, later to become Queen Elizabeth II, and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in 1947.
The entry in the School Log Book, shown below, refers to the 'generosity of the Hay townspeople'.

School log book entry

This was written on 20th November 1947, and reads:
"School is closed for the day on account of the wedding of HRH Princess Elizabeth and Lt.Mountbatten.
The children are given a free cinema show and tea party through the generosity of the Hay townspeople. All teachers gave a helping hand".
No doubt the little children were very appreciative of the kindness of the people of the town !
