Taking the waters
The spas at Llanwrtyd and Llangammarch Wells
Although they were never either as large or as famous as Llandrindod Wells to the east, there were other mid-Wales health resorts which prospered in Victorian times at Llanwrtyd Wells and at Llangammarch Wells.

Many of the people who visited the spas would put on their best clothes and pose for a souvenir photograph like this one.
This picture was taken next to one of the spa buildings at Llanwrtyd Wells, probably around
1895.
While Llandrindod Wells catered mainly for the better off and more fashionable visitors, these more modest spas attracted many miners and steelworkers and their families from the valleys of south Wales. They certainly needed summer holidays in the clean air of the hills !
