"Three
shillings a week" On the 16th July 1788 at the
Quarter Sessions in Presteigne another case of hardship came
before the court. We do not know what help had been given to
Richard Edward previously but here the court is instructing the
parish authorities of Saint Harmon to make further payments.
People like Richard Edward might
get different levels of care in different parishes, but here
the court of the Quarter Sessions is being invoked to
ensure better support for himself and his family. This would
not have endeared him to the local parish authorities.
