In "A Municipal History of Llanidloes" published in 1908, the author E R Horsfall-Turner wrote "Some of the vendors at the market place are so old-established that they appear to be a part of the natural order of things. Mary Brown was one of the most permanent institutions of the borough until her death at a ripe age".
