The bad character book

This extract from a Police Journal of a constable based in Montgomery in the 1840's includes an interesting reference to the 'Bad Character Book', which doubtless held details of local people liable to be suspected of any crimes committed in the area.

This entry, recorded on 6th December 1843, reads as follows:
"I saw John Williams (alias Penrwyn) noted in the Bad Character Book on the road by the four Crosses. He lives now in a place called the Donrgay lane under Mr Menlove."
