  Transport in Victorian Montgomeryshire

Throughout Queen Victoria's reign transport in rural areas depended on the horse. The wealthy could travel in their own carriages while others could pay to travel on the stage coaches. Few working people could afford this and so they could only travel as far as they could walk.

By the end of the period, the light railway was being constructed connecting the Llanfair area with a wider railway network. Working people were just beginning to have the freedom and money to travel further, and the first motor cars were seen on Montgomeryshire's roads.
