Victorian Llanfair Caereinion

Llanfair Caereinion and district

relief map of Llanfair districtThe small country market town of Llanfair Caereinion, in the heart of the ancient county of Montgomeryshire, developed at an important crossing point on the River Banw.

Victorian Llanfair had long been a centre for the farming community with its livestock sales and market hall. The town survived a great fire in the 18th century and there was much rebuilding.

It also lies at the crossroads of important routes from the coast to Shrewsbury with smaller roads
connecting the communities of the Montgomeryshire countryside.

Like the other communities on our website, Llanfair Caereinion and the villages around it underwent great changes during Queen Victoria's reign.
