Coach services in the early Victorian period
Pigot's Directory of South Wales 1835, is a book which gives us lists of all the tradesmen, landowners, and services in Llanfair and district. Drawing of coach and horses(See the pages on
Earning a living)
It also gives us a picture of the coach services at the time Queen Victoria came to the throne.

This was the only means people had of travelling beyond the area into the wider world at that time.

Directory entryAs you can see from the timetable, the coaches connected Llanfair with Shrewsbury in England and with the towns of the Welsh coast.
It must have been a long hard journey over to the coast in bad weather for those passengers who could not afford a seat inside the coach and had to sit on top !
The coach driver would change the horses whenever they stopped at a coaching inn like the Goat in Llanfair Caereinion. By changing the horses regularly when they grew tired the coach could keep up a quicker pace.
