Taking the waters
  Your carriage awaits

This photograph was taken around 1910, so it comes well into the Edwardian rather than the Victorian years. But it is included here because it is a fascinating picture which shows the form of transport used by many visitors to Llandrindod Wells during much of the late Victorian period.

The picture was taken at the Trefonen Lane workshop of a blacksmith called Charles Jones. The services he provided included the hiring out of horses and carriages for local tours, and also the much smaller pony carts shown here.
These little carriages were mostly used by invalids and by elderly visitors, and rides around Rock Park and Llandrindod Lake were the most popular trips. You can see a similar vehicle in the park on another page in this series.
