The Post Office entry records the frequency of the arrival and despatch of letters by 'horse-post'. Though the remarks about the town are somewhat uncharitable - "The immediate town has but little to boast in attractive objects" - the directory notes that the surrounding area is "highly interesting" with "lofty and majestic mountains" nearby.
