  From fire station to bookshop
The photograph below shows the Hay Fire Brigade in 1940, during the Second World War. The picture is of particular interest in that it shows the old fire station in Castle Street.

 Fire Brigade and station,1940 
  The former fire station building is pictured below in 1999. Like more than a few other properties in Hay it is now a bookshop, and the premises is now occupied by Boz Books at 13a Castle Street.

The building now carries a blue plaque to record its previous role in the history of the town.
