  Kelly's Directory 1895: Llangorse

Here is the entry for the community of Llangorse. You can see at the top the clergy and gentry (people of independent income who did not have to have a job to earn a living).
After that come the farmers and men and women with a trade in the community.

The publishers of the directory were unused to Welsh names and so there are some unusual spellings at times! Can you recognise any of them?
Don't forget!
The surnames are first
entry from trade directory

Notice that there are signs here of the growing tourist industry.

Robert Jones and Thomas Jones both have apartments to let to visitors.

The opening of the railway made it easier for people from the towns and cities to visit this beautiful part of Breconshire
