Kelly's Directory 4: Nantmel gentry and tradesmen
Don't forget!
The surnames are first

The list on the right shows the gentry and tradesmen of Nantmel in 1895. The Private Residents are the property owners and the local vicar. These are people who did not have to earn their living by being in trade or by working for someone else.

The people under the Commercial heading are people who earn their living by providing services to the local community.
The millers and the blacksmith all provided important services in the country areas, as did the Post Office, shops and pubs.
With no supermarkets and limited transport local shops and markets provided the food that people needed.
