Victorian school days
  Llandegley School

The caption to this old photograph told us only that it was a picture of Llandegley School "before 1886".
Like one of the photographs of Llanbister Cantal School on another page, it shows more of the school building than of the children who went there ! It almost looks as if they were caught by surprise when the photographer came, and told to stay where they were !

Llandegley School

Most Victorian country school buildings were very solid stone structures like this one. The play area outside was often hard and stony in the summer and horribly muddy in the winter !
The windows in the schoolroom seem to have been blanked off apart from little squares in the window, for some reason. Perhaps it was to make them less likely to get broken !
