By the late Victorian period photography had become much easier and produced better results, so many schools were able to have photographs taken of all their pupils each year. They were usually arranged in a group, and wore their best clothes !

This is the first of two examples of pictures taken at Llanbister Cantal School, and this one includes a slightly unusual way of lining up the children ! It was probably taken in the late 1890s.
