This photograph was also taken at Llanbister Cantal School, but this time we can be fairly sure of the date. The little blonde girl in the front row is very helpfully holding up a writing slate with "Cantal School 1901" written on it !

Most pictures like these usually have at least one blurred face, because it took much longer to expose a photograph than it does today. The early cameras were mounted on sturdy wooden tripods and everyone had to keep still for quite a long time, which wasn't easy for young children to do !
