  A walk in Temple Gardens

The photograph below is an early view of Llandrindod Wells, looking from Spa Road across Temple Gardens towards Temple Street. The two ladies at the centre of the picture are crossing Lindens Walk.
The houses and hotels on the left are in South Crescent, and the building on the right was the Bridge Hotel, now the Metropole, which is also shown on another page in this series.

Temple Gardens

Temple Gardens were laid out as croquet lawns and tennis courts for many years. These games were popular with many of the visitors staying in the hotels nearby.
The Brynawel Hotel (now the Glen Usk) and the Lansdowne Hotel were in South Crescent, and the Plas Winton Hotel (now the Commodore) was behind the photographer in this view.
The picture gives a good idea of the fashionable air of the town during the late Victorian years.
