Here is a further extract from Pigot's
Directory showing us some of the tradesmen
who were busy in the area in the early years of Queen Victoria's reign.
The skinners
and the tanners were both involved
in the production of leather. The skinner
was the man who skinned the animals and prepared the skins for tanning.
This was a very smelly process, so not many people would want to live next door to the tannery !
