Presteigne - The National School 3
An early roll call

The school roll in 1869
At the time of the HMI inspection in May 1869, the Headmaster made a list in the School Log Book of all the pupils at his school who would be tested by the Inspectors. Local people will recognise many of the family names.

Although the school was for boys only until 1929, there are girls on this early list and the Headmaster seems happy to include the few girls released from the demands of home to get the beginnings of an education.
