Llanidloes - The mining industry Dylife Lead Mines 2
The big wheel
The exceptionally large water-wheel at Dylife Lead Mines, mentioned
on the previous page, is pictured in this early photograph of
around 1852. The man standing in front of the wheel gives some
idea of the huge size of the structure.

The
photograph on the right, also from around 1852, includes the
Star Inn in the centre background and the mine buildings and
water-wheel in front.
Little now remains of what was once a flourishing community of
almost 1500 people. Even the church has gone, but the Star Inn
survives.
