Shown below is an early view, of wonderful quality, of the lower end of Castle Street in Hay. The shops visible in this view are Williams' tailoring and drapery business on the left and Evans saddlery on the right.

Castle Square,1999.The row of shops on the right in the old photograph above were later demolished, and only the tall structure of the town hall, visible at the back in the above view, survives today.

The site of these shops (left) now forms part of Castle Square, which lies below Hay Castle.
