Pugh the Fishmonger
An attractive early photograph of Pugh's Fruiterer and Fishmongers shop in Lion Street, Hay is shown below. This would appear to have been taken in the thirties, and a trade directory issued in 1936 includes the business of T.Pugh trading as a fishmonger in Lion Street.

The photograph on the left, taken
in 1999, shows the same premises today, still trading as a food
retailer.
The distinctive columns with their pyramidal cappings at the side of the shopfront clearly identify the site of the old shop.
