  Kelly's Directory 1895: Llangasty Talyllyn

Below is the entry for Llanfihangel Talyllyn. As well as all the farmers you can see entries for the trades which were important in the countryside.
At this time most of the things local people needed were provided by local men and women with a particular skill.
As this was a small community people often had to have more than one job to make a living. Robert Hargest was a boot maker and also Assistant Overseer of the poor for the local Poor Law Union.

Don't forget!
The surnames are first

Notice one job which didn't exist in the area at the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign.

Here we can see David Williams is earning money by providing refreshments for the travellers at the local railway station.
