In Victorian times most of the people of Norton parish would have been involved in farming or working on the land in some way. Many of them would have worked on local estates like Boultibrooke or Norton Manor. Some local women would have worked as servants in the big houses.
There would also have been local craftsmen also like saddlers and wheelwrights providing a much-needed service to the community.
Norton was close enough to Presteigne for people to travel there for work.
