Presteigne In 1856,
some 13 years after the date of the proposed Presteigne "Lock-up"
of 1843, standard designs for police houses in country areas throughout
Britain were sent out. There were different layouts to
suit the numbers and ranks of police who would be staying in them. All
the designs included secure cells
to lock up prisoners. The plan
view shown here is a design for one of the small rural police
stations on two floors, taken from the guide "..for
the construction of station houses for rural constabulary",
dated 1856.
