In Victorian times most of the people of Gladestry parish would have been involved in farming or working on the land in some way.
There would also have been local craftsmen also like blacksmiths and carpenters providing a much-needed service to the community. Some may also have worked in the quarries and lime works at Burlingjobb.
Gladestry was also close enough to Kington for people to travel there for work.
