Elizabeth Gittins - Llanfyllin workhouse

  
  Sadly, women abandoned by their husbands often had no other option but to go to the workhouse.
The entry shown below from the official records of Llanfyllin workhouse was made in March, 1891...

This writing, which is not easy to read, says:
"Elizabeth Gittins, Workhouse -
A letter was recd [received] from Watkin Gittins the husband of this person declining to contribute towards the cost of maintaining his wife in the Workhouse, when the clerk was instructed to take legal proceedings against him."
