The workhouse
The Board
of Guardians at Builth thought that the poor were best looked
after by a system called 'Outdoor Relief'.
This meant that money was paid directly to families who probably lived
at home.
Builth
Union workhouse
A
workhouse was eventually built just south of the town in 1877
to house 60 inmates. It was demolished in 1941.
