More problems caused to local schools by the Welsh winter (and sometimes summer too !) are shown on this page and the next.These come from school log books (or diaries) from Victorian times.

At Darowen school the Headmaster wrote of the difficulties faced Stormy weatherby the youngest children in 1870...

This entry reads:
"Attendance gradually getting lower as winter advances. Very few infants can attend in winter."

The problems which children had to cope with in getting to schools, particularly those in hilly and remote areas, are often mentioned in the records of Victorian schools.
