Machynlleth
School life
Only seven turned up at school...
The Headmaster at Aberhosan school also showed concern for his young pupils in 1894, as shown in this entry from the official school record book...
  School diary entry

This entry reads:Studying a schoolbook
" Feb 7th: Only 7 children came to school this morning. As they were very wet they were sent home."

Schools in the area also had to cope with running out of coal, leaking roofs, broken desks, not enough desks, and no water.
Despite all these problems, hundreds of children grew up with a new knowledge of the outside world, able to read and add up.
Many of them went on to better jobs than their parents had and lived more comfortable lives.
