In 1889,transport was still horse-drawn so the wheelwright was still very important. It was a very skilled trade making wheels for carriages and waggons of all sizes out of wood, and then attaching solid iron tyres..

Woollen manufacturing is still going on in Llanfair, though probably not by handloom in 1889.

Compare the entries in Sutton's Directory with those in Pigot's Directory.
Can you find any tradesmen who are still working?
Look for tradesmen with the same surname. Businesses were often passed from father to son.
