Clyro is still a quiet rural parish with a small population. In Victorian times most ordinary working people would have worked on the land as labourers or farm servants. In the village itself there were a few craftsmen selling their skills in the rural community. As it is near to Hay some of the villagers would have travelled across the river to find work.
