The tradesmen of the area in 1835

extract from Pigot's DirectoryThe list on the right is the first part of a long list of tradesmen and shopkeepers who kept the community going in the early years of Queen Victoria's reign.

Most people in the area relied on local tradesmen and shopkeepers for almost everything they needed.

In rural areas where the population is smaller you will often see someone having more than one role in the community.

Here we can see that Thomas Morgan was a grocer and stone mason and Thomas Williams sold books, did printing for people and was a grocer. He must have been a very busy man!

Don't forget!
