| Llanbedr
parish in Victorian times was a mountainous country parish with a very small
population. The report which came with the census returns said that the
population of the parish in 1841 had decreased by 60 from 1831 due to the
"depressed state of the iron trade". This shows us that even in the rural areas men were walking miles to work in the foundries and mines. Compare the overall trend with that of other rural parishes like Partrishow or Llanfihangel Cwmdu. Is the overall trend the same? Why do you think the population declined towards the end of the Victorian period? |
