Crime and punishment
Law and order in Brecon and district

Over the long years of Queen Victoria's reign the authorities' attitudes to crime and the punishments given out to criminals changed considerably.

In this period of many changes, there were new developments also in the way in which criminals were detected and dealt with. In the 1850s a proper County Constabulary was set up for Breconshire. From then on local communities had professional policemen for the first time.
