  The parish of Ystradgynlais Lower included Ystradgynlais itself, Gurnos, Cwmtwrch, Cwmgiedd, Penrhos, Cae'r bont, Cae'r-lan, Pant-y-cwrt, and most of Abercrave.
Throughout Queen Victoria's reign this was the most heavily populated part of Breconshire.
