Presteigne
in Victorian times
A carriage awaits at the Bull Hotel

This old photograph, probably taken close to the end of the long Victorian period of our history around 1898, is slightly the worse for wear !
It is interesting because it shows a form of transport which would have been a familiar sight outside many of the smarter hotels in the Victorian years.

This elegant horse-drawn carriage is waiting for its passengers outside the Bull Hotel in St David's Street, near the junction with High Street in Presteigne.
The two horses seem to be wearing little pointed hats over their ears for some reason - perhaps they were earmuffs !
