Presteigne
in Victorian times
  Broad Street, 1860
The rather blurred old photograph shown here was taken in Broad Street, Presteigne in 1860.
The picture is interesting because of the amount of activity going on in the street, and for the examples of early Victorian dress worn by the local people.

Although it seems to have been a special occasion of some sort, important enough to be recorded by the photographer, we are not sure what was actually going on at the time !
Quite a few people have turned out to watch, and the man on the ladder in the background may have been a fireman.
