Montgomery and district
in Victorian times
  A local craftsman

The picture below shows us the shop of a local clock and watchmaker, a Mr Burroughs of Arthur Street.
Today most items like watches and clocks are made far away and transported all over the world, but in Victorian times every little community had its craftsmen. (See the pages on Earning a living)

Montgomery Civic Society
The picture above is of a beautifully decorated Victorian clock made by another local clockmakers, Mills of Montgomery.

The shop front is typical of the Victorian period with shutters to protect the windows at night. Notice also the window low down by the pavement to let light into the cellar.
