Machynlleth The Machynlleth entry in Worrall's
Directory printed in 1874
has the top people from the town listed as 'Private
Residents' rather than as 'gentry and clergy'
- but they are still the same type of people as before. The Marquis
of Londonderry is by now listed under that
new title, which he inherited just two years earlier, in 1872.
He had appeared in earlier listings of the gentry of the district as the
Rt Hon Earl Vane. Back to

The house is named here as Plas Maengwyn rather than Plas Machynlleth,
though the house does not seem to have been known by that name elsewhere.
