The Machynlleth entry in Worrall's Directory printed in 1874 has the top people from the town listed as 'Private Residents' rather than as 'gentry and clergy' - but they are still the same type of people as before.

The Marquis of Londonderry is by now listed under Plas Machynlleththat new title, which he inherited just two years earlier, in 1872. He had appeared in earlier listings of the gentry of the district as the Rt Hon Earl Vane.
The house is named here as Plas Maengwyn rather than Plas Machynlleth, though the house does not seem to have been known by that name elsewhere.
