Llanddulas parish was sometimes called Newchurch in Tir Abbot [Tirabad] in early Victorian times. This was a reminder of the medieval days when the area was mainly estates belonging to the abbey of Strata Florida. Like Penbuallt it included large areas of wind-swept upland on Mynydd Epynt.
