A busy scene in Dolcoed Road

This attractive hand-coloured photograph comes from one of many different picture postcards sold in the late Victorian and Edwardian years to visitors to the health spas of mid-Wales.
It seems hard to imagine these days, but the spa towns of Llandrindod, Builth and Llanwrtyd Wells were once as busy and as popular as the British seaside resorts in their heyday (before everybody went abroad for their holidays !).

Dolcoed Road

This old postcard gives some idea of what these places were like during the busy times for 'taking the waters'.
The scene is Dolcoed Road in Llanwrtyd Wells, and some of the visitors to the town are strolling around in their finest holiday outfits, including the two little boys with their knickerbockers and lace collars. No T-shirts and baseball caps in 1900 !
