Tradesmen: miller to shopkeeper |
The fast flowing rivers and streams of northern Montgomeryshire were a convenient source of energy, and watermills were built along the Cain, Tanat, Vyrnwy and other rivers in the area to exploit this. The millers were an important part of the local economy in Victorian times and the list here shows just some of those in the area in 1858. |

The saddlers made saddles and harness for the horses which were so important in Victorian times before motor vehicles came into use. In Victorian times every little hamlet had its local shop. It is a shame that the Directory doesn't tell us more about these shopkeepers from 1858. |
