  An outing on the canal

This is a wonderful old photograph of a canal boat 'treat' for members of the Bethel chapel Sunday School in the early 1900s, in the Edwardian years.
The bridge in the picture is at Gasworks Lane in Brecon.

The commercial use of the Brecon and Abergavenny canal slowly came to an end as more and more of the goods once carried on the canal boats switched to the railways.
This meant that many boats became available for pleasure trips and school outings, and some late Victorian school log books mention treats on the much quieter canals.
